About RedLine Technical
RedLine Technical is a multidisciplinary firm specializing in drafting, design, laser scanning, and surveying services. Leveraging over a decade of experience and cutting-edge technology, our team of engineers, surveyors, and drafting professionals delivers innovative solutions with integrity and transparency.
Established in 2009
Located in the heart of downtown Calgary, RedLine Technical has been one of the most prominent names in industrial drafting for over a decade. Taking our philosophy from our namesake, we believe that a well-managed project often comes down to the details.
Starting out, our founders saw through this goal by providing data management and reliable CAD drawings at competitive rates. We’ve since evolved into a complete as-built package that includes: Laser Scanning, Surveying, Field Validation, Design Engineering Personnel, Engineering Application Experts, Document Management and Quality Control.
Our shift to a multidisciplinary as-built focus has allowed us to tailor packages that suit your oil and gas or construction projects. Using cutting-edge technology we’re able to create intelligent data-centric models which work for you even after the job is done. We take pride in our quality and timeless delivery, and with the support of our overseas sister company we can keep drafting costs at a minimum.

Darcy Johnson
Managing Partner
With over 35 years of experience in the industry, Darcy Johnson has built a career
rooted in piping design, CAD administration, and 3D design application support.
Beginning as a Piping Designer, Darcy transitioned into CAD administration and later specialized in supporting 3D design applications such as PDS, CADWorx, and more. This extensive expertise led him to co-found RedLine Technical in 2008, alongside his business partner, Peter, to provide drafting and asbuilding solutions for Owner/Operators and engineering companies.
At RedLine Technical, Darcy and his team leverage industry-leading
software—including SmartPlant 3D, CADWorx, AutoCAD, and MicroStation—to
deliver highly precise technical drawings and models. Their capabilities go beyond
traditional drafting, integrating laser scanning technology for accurate asbuilding and virtual tour scans to provide clients with remote access to detailed site information.
With a deep understanding of industry standards and best practices, Darcy has
successfully contributed to pipeline and facility modifications, full-scale plant
expansions, and complex industrial projects. His client-focused approach ensures
that every project is executed with efficiency, accuracy, and the highest level of
professionalism.

We continue to promote safety education and training. No member of our team will work without the proper up to date safety training.

Frequently Asked Questions
Redline services many industries, however our primary customers are owner operators in the Oil and Gas field. We do also serve but not limited to, BIM, Construction, Manufacturing, Mining, Power as well as Architectural.
As-building refers to the process of documenting the actual, current conditions of a facility, pipeline, or structure as it exists in the field. This includes capturing precise measurements, layouts, and any modifications made during construction, installation, or operation.
- Accurate Documentation – Ensures that engineering drawings match the real-world installation, reducing errors in future modifications or expansions.
- Regulatory Compliance – Helps meet industry standards and safety regulations by providing up-to-date documentation for inspections and audits.
- Improved Safety – Provides accurate information about piping, equipment, and structures, reducing risks for maintenance and operations personnel.
- Efficient Maintenance & Repairs – Supports quicker troubleshooting and repairs by providing detailed, real-world drawings.
- Optimized Engineering & Design – Ensures that new projects or modifications are based on accurate existing conditions, minimizing rework and unexpected costs.
- Integration with 3D Modeling – Enhances digital twin models and helps teams visualize assets more effectively for planning and remote collaboration.
As we also offer laser scanning services, our as-building process is even more precise, capturing high-resolution point cloud data to create detailed 3D models and drawings.
- Initial Consultation – Contact us to discuss your project scope, requirements, and objectives and provide any existing documentation to help convey your requirements.
- Site Assessment & Data Collection – Schedule a site visit (if needed) to determine the best approach based on your facility accessibility and required level of detail.
- Drafting & Modeling Process – Our team processes the collected data and creates accurate 2D drawings or 3D models using SmartPlant 3D, CADWorx, AutoCAD, MicroStation or other applications required.
- Review & Revisions – We provide you with preliminary drafts for review and make necessary revisions or updated based on feedback – coordinating with engineers, project managers or other stakeholders as needed.
- Final Deliverables & Handover – Once approved, we deliver the final drafting or as-built documentation in your preferred format (DWG, DGN, PDF, 3D model, or virtual tour scan) and all necessary documentation for compliance, maintenance, or future projects.
Laser scanning is a highly accurate and efficient method for capturing real-world conditions in oil and gas facilities. It provides a detailed, data-rich representation of existing infrastructure, making it essential for asbuilding.
