Newletter: March 2021

March 2021

Hi RedLiners,

Welcome to your monthly newsletter. We’re hoping that this newsletter will help us communicate better during these dark days of COVID isolation. We have been missing face-to-face human contact around the water cooler, which is something you just can’t duplicate with WebEx meeting and Jabber.

The goal here is to bring you up to date on RedLine initiatives and new staff. We will endeavor to let you know where RedLine is going as an organization and how you’re all included. Because at the end of the day, Darcy and I realize that RedLine is just a corporate name. We’re nothing without our hard-working, quality-driven staff and contractors.

On the Horizon side, our legacy as-building budget was increased so we were able to add three new faces! To this we welcome Terri and James, and also Jamie, who transitioned from the Albian team. The goal is to rip through 20,000 legacy markups by the end of 2022, go team!

And on the Albian side, we’ve added some new team members to support the sustaining capital in-house design, and have ramped-up the as-building and document control team. To this we welcome Tina, Ramon, Jenae, Ethan, Andy, Nasim, Tanvi, Lise (welcome back), Christine, Gabriel.

Meanwhile our surveying and laser scan teams are making great progress at Albian and Horizon with our awesome survey team Cameron, Conner and Blair.

Also welcome Brock who will be working hard to keep RedLine communications flowing with newsletters, LinkedIn updates, and website maintenance, as well as fun stuff such as riddles and logic puzzles.

2021 will be a challenge but it looks like we’re emerging from the storm.

Let’s make it a great year folks!

RedLine Update

The recent rebound of production being seen in the oil and gas industry alongside a worldwide rise in oil prices has stirred a level of optimism we’re excited to see. It seems we’re beginning to see optimistic projections that are valuing Alberta’s production to pre-pandemic levels.

And with the immanent release of the 2021 Alberta budget, its possible that this rebound is riding the same optimism we saw earlier in October with developments surrounding the announced successes of the COVID-19 vaccine.

This marks a major turnaround for the industry, which saw prices plummet into negative territory last spring. Some of you might notice that the company has gained quite a bit of traction in the past two to three months. We’re excited to see all the new faces, and are looking forward to the day when we can all be back at the office.

Tina Yang: Piping Designer

Tina’s 14 years of experience designing 3D piping for oil and gas industrial projects provides her with the intellectual tools to get the job done. Her solutions-based work style and extensive education is an asset we’re proud to have.

Ethan Klint: UAV Surveyor

In addition to his skills in business development and document control, Ethan’s broad range of talents will aid us in the development of our UAV program. From business to fitness development, Ethan’s talents often go beyond the purview of his job description. We’re excited to be working with him.

Gabriel Neculau: Piping Designer

Gabriel’s growth as a drafting & design professional has spanned more than 16 years. Since receiving his Piping Drafting Certificate from S.A.I.T in 2006, he’s continued to develop and hone his skillset to ensure that his work is up-to-date and cutting-edge. We’re happy to have him onboard.

Jenae van Ryzeyk: Document Specialist

Jenae’s experience as an administrative professional has provided her with the tools to be a personable and reliable company representative. Her broad skillset ranges from database organization to document formatting.

Brock Zawila: Copywriter

Brock has been working and developing as a professional writer for the past 10 years. He recently received a masters in writing from the University of East Anglia and is now exploring a career in technical writing. He’s also the editor of this newsletter!

New Faces

Andy Espinosa: Piping Designer

With 21 years of piping and mechanical engineering under his belt, Andy’s involvement in the Brownfield and Greenfield projects is just a small portion of his many feats. We’re happy to have Andy onboard and are looking forward to see how he excels at RedLine.

Nasim Rajaee: 3D Modeling Designer

Nasim’s technical training has kept her ahead of the game in many aspects of her work as a structural & architectural designer. Her involvement in many of CN’s developments over the past decade has provided her with a level of expertise in 3D and 2D drafting.

Ramon Llamoso: I&C Designer

Often awarded recognition for his ability to meet tight deadlines, it’s safe to say Ramon takes pride in his work as an integrated circuit designer. His 20+ years of expertise has taken him all over the world to places like Atlanta, London, Yokohama and more.

Tanvi Gurav: Electrical I&C Designer

Tanvi has honed her craft as an automation designer throughout her career. Her result-oriented workstyle has found success in the oil & gas, pharmaceutical, residential and manufacturing industries.

Christine Marolly-Tsaprailis: Piping Designer

Christine has over 25 years of experience as a drafting and design professional. Her areas of expertise include 3D modelling, isometric production, and plot plan arrangement drawings. We’re excited to foster her development working in oil and gas and are happy to have her on the RedLine team.

Terri Robb: Piping Designer

Terri has been attached to the world of drafting for 25 years. With an extensive education and an employment record that includes AMEC and Nova Chemicals, they’re able to manage and create strong workflows and work instructions.

Lise Aquin: Electrical Designer

With more than 20 years of working in electrical and instrumentation drafting, Lise prides herself on her ability to design and prepare CWP’s, support progress in the field and provide comprehensive as-builts in the office. She recently transitioned from the Horizon CNRL team, where she managed the electrical as-built team.

James Hannam: Piping Designer

James’ proficiency as a piping designer started in his pursuit as a pipe fitter. For the past 15 years his development as a drafting professional has gone from designing P&ID’s for facilities to becoming WorleyParsons’ Discipline Application Specialist for their Imperil 3D Autoplant Projects.

Droning On

The rumours are true people! As of last week RedLine Technical became the proud owner of a DJI Phantom 4RTK. Our sleek little eye in the sky can be up in the air for 30 minutes on a charge and will be making headway in the coming months on many a job site. We’re planning on using it for providing aerial mapping and surveying sites that require volume calculations. The advantage here is all in the Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) module, which allows for an increased accuracy in mapping data. We’ve only got one problem, ‘DJI Phantom 4RTK’ is quite the mouthful, don’t you think? If you’ve got an idea for a name, shoot Brock an email at brockz@redlinetechnical.com and at the end of the month we’ll vote on the best one!

Monthly Puzzles

Hey puzzle fans, here are a couple of quick brain teasers to tide you over for this month. Think you can solve them? Then send your answers to brockz@redlinetechnical.com. If you’re the first one to get EITHER of them correct you’ll win a $20 card to Tim Hortons.

Rules

  • First person to get a correct answer for either puzzle wins a prize.
  • You only need to get one of the puzzles right to win the gift card.
  • You don’t win a bonus prize for answering both.
  • No cheating, Googling or answer-sharing!

Nothing But Peas in a Jar

At a county fair people were asked to guess the amount of peas that were in a large Mason jar.

No one guessed correctly, but the nearest guesses were 163, 169, 178 and 182.

One of the numbers was one out, one was three out, one was ten out and the other sixteen out.

How many peas were there in the jar?
